Christmas Morning

Jason and I stayed up on Christmas Eve night and put together Jack's "big" present ... a Step 2 train table. It's a bit out of his age range, but we took away all of the age-inappropriate pieces and are saving them for when he gets older. We left it out in the living room for Jack to "find" on Christmas morning.

The train is kind of loud, so Jack wasn't sure what to think at first. It took a bit of coaxing to get him to get close. But it didn't take long before he was exploring it for himself! He loves it! He especially loves the plastic trees that came with it. A couple of times he leaned in so far that his feet came off the floor. I wasn't fast enough to get a good picture of it!

Notice his adorable Christmas jammies!

Jack also got a big bag of MegaBlocks for his birthday. So Jason and Jack sat in the floor and built for a while.

It was a nice leisurely morning. Jack slept until 8:00 (which is almost unheard of). We ate breakfast and then opened presents and had plenty of time to play before heading over to my parent's house for the McCleskey family get-together. It was a great morning!

Christmas Eve Festivities

The night before Christmas Eve, Jack started running a fever. He had no other symptoms ... no cough, no runny nose. He was eating fine and slept all night despite the fever. But we decided to take him to the pediatrician Christmas Eve morning ... just to be safe! We were praying that it would be an ear infection instead of something like the flu that would cause us to miss all of the Christmas festivities. Turns out ... it was an ear infection that we caught very early (number 5). We were so thankful! And Jack did great with the changes in routine (staying up late, shorter nap times, etc.) despite the ear infection. You'd have never known he had an ear infection!

Christmas Eve we went to Jason's mom and dad's house to celebrate Christmas! Jack was a tad confused when we came in and all of his toys had been moved to the playroom and out of the living room. Then he had to go check out the presents under the tree. He loved Ma's tree. It had an ornament that played music that he liked to push and several with pictures of family members that he liked to look at!

Jack did great opening presents. He would rip the paper off and then genuinely be excited about the toy inside! It was so much fun. But of course, nothing was more fun than the wrapping paper itself. We used a laundry basket to bring in all of our presents, but of course the laundry basket is one of Jack's favorite places to hang out!

Ma and Pa gave Jack a piano. Now he can play along with me!

Love his expression in this one. I also love the bow on his head. It's not officially Christmas unless someone is wearing a bow!

Matt and Shannon watch as Brittany opens a present!

Ma opens her new sweater ...

Jack tears into another present! Looks like he's really getting into it now!

Ma and Pa gave Jack a marshmallow shooter for Christmas! It is one of his favorite presents ... no joke! He walks around with it pointing it at stuff. He doesn't know how to shoot it. He just knows it's cool! Meanwhile ... I'm enjoying the marshmallows!

Jason cheeses for the camera!

The big hit of the night was a "tent" with a tube. We converted the tent into a ball pit by turning it upside-down. (The tent didn't have a floor to contain the balls.) Needless to say ... Jack loved it. The pictures say it all!

Jack's cousin Jacob hanging out in the bean bag reading one of his new books
Rachel was there too. But somehow we didn't get any pictures of her. :-(

Brittany strikes a pose for the camera!

More serious ... but still funny!

Since the tent is upside-down, it's a bit hard to get in and out of, but Jack can do it all by himself. I think it makes it even more fun for him!

We had a great time. Jack was up way past his bedtime, but he did great! We put him in Christmas jammies and headed home. He was asleep not long after we pulled out of Ma and Pa's driveway!

Random Playtime Pictures

Jack loves to just sit in the floor and read books. He still doesn't love for me to read them to him, but he's very content to just look at them himself! Hope that's a sign that he will love to read!

He's such a big boy!

I love the expression on his face in this last picture! I don't love the fact that it makes him look bigger than he really is!

Christmastime Is Here

I know this is technically Jack's second Christmas, but it felt more like his first. This year he was actually able to experience a lot more of it. He was only about 5 months old last Christmas.

We put the Christmas tree up one night after Jack was in bed. We decided not to put any ornaments on it so that we wouldn't have to say "No" very often and Jack could explore the tree without hurting anything! (Not to mention the fact that is was easier to put up and take down! We'll aim for ornaments next year!)

When we brought Jack down the next morning, he was in awe! He loved the lights. He would touch them and smile! Turning the lights on was the first thing we had to do every morning when we came down the stairs. He loved the tree and the lights!

Playing With the Cousins

In November, we went to Murfreesboro to celebrate our niece Amber's birthday. Jack got lots of playtime in with the cousins! He had a blast!

Allie "Cake" and Jack checking out the toys together. Allie's middle name is Kate, but she likes to be silly and say it's Cake. So that's what I call her!

Allie and Jack are almost exactly one year apart so I anticipate that they will be great friends. It's fun to look at Allie to see what Jack will be doing this time next year!

Our nieces have this awesome tunnel. Jack and Amber spent a lot of time playing in it! Jason was able to get some fun pictures of it!

Amber at the end of the tunnel ...

"Ready or not ... here I come!"

Traffic Jam!

"Let's go through together!"

"All of this fun is wearing me out!"

Jack also discovered another toy he instantly loved ... a light saber. I believe he's a Star Wars fan in the making! Every Jedi needs a light saber, right?

I bought this shirt in honor of Jason. Jack is destined to be a gamer. As one of my good friends says, "It's in his DNA!"

A good time was had by all, and if I recall correctly, Jack slept really well that night! He may be outnumbered being the only boy on the McCleskey side, but he can hold his own!
